EP23: Exosome Products Compared: Quality vs. Hype
Why you can’t count exosomes—and what really matters when choosing regenerative medicine products
Can you really count exosomes in a vial?
After 10+ years in regenerative medicine, I’m here to tell you the uncomfortable truth: most companies can’t actually quantify what they’re selling you.
In Episode 23 of the Recharge Biomedical Podcast, I tackle one of the most common questions I get from both patients and providers: how do we compare different exosome products?
The Short Answer: You can’t rely on particle counts. Here’s why.
What You’ll Discover in This Episode:
You Can’t Count Exosomes They’re too small to count reliably, and particle-counting devices often confuse them with proteins or other cellular debris. When a company brags about “10 billion exosomes per vial,” be skeptical.
Quality Matters More Than Quantity Look for products filtered with tangential flow filtration (TFF), from a single, high-quality donor source. Particle counts are marketing theater—what matters is the manufacturing process.
Biological Activity Is the True Measure Metrics like RNA concentration (used by Kimera Labs) reflect actual signaling potency. These measurements tell you about the exosomes’ ability to communicate with your cells—which is the whole point.
Buyer Beware Why some manufacturers may mislead consumers and the importance of making smarter, safer decisions when evaluating exosome therapies.
